Death Sentence for Man Who Raped & Murdered 4-Yr-Old Girl in Sundargarh Dist

Sundargarh: A man was sentenced to death by a POCSO court in Odisha’s Sundargarh on Thursday for kidnapping, raping and murdering a four-year-old girl in 2016.

This gruesome incident had occurred at Dengibhadi of Sundargarh district.

The convict Sanjeeb Kerketta had murdered the girl at a half-constructed building after abducting and raping her. The body of the victim was recovered three days after the incident. Kerketta was booked under Sections 450, 366, 376(2)(i), 376 (A), 302 and 201 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Judge Mahendra Kumar Sutradhar of the POCSO court pronounced the capital punishment to the convict. The court also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the mother of the victim, who is a widow.

The court examined 35 witnesses during the trial of the case.
