Gujarat Youth Gets Death Penalty for Rape & Murder of 2-Yr-Old

New Delhi: A court in Gujarat’s Surat city on Wednesday awarded death sentence to 23-year-old Yusuf Ismail for the rape and murder of a two-year-old girl in February 2023.

The convict was a friend of the victim’s father. This ghastly incident occurred at Kapletha village near the Sachin industrial area of Surat.

The prosecution argued for the death sentence for Ismail by terming it to be the rarest of rare cases.

Additional sessions judge Shakuntala Solanki directed the Odisha government to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the victim.

Ismail was convicted and found guilty under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape), and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
