63-Yr-Old Former JNU Employee Arrested for Cheating Rs 11 Cr from Professors of Univ & IIT

New Delhi: A 63-year-old former JNU employee, P D Gaikwad was arrested for allegedly cheating professors of the JNU and IIT Delhi of more than Rs 11 crore on the pretext of providing affordable houses.

He was arrested following complaints of conned professors.

Gaikwad, who was posted as a scientific officer at the university’s School of Environmental Sciences, in 2015 formed the Noble Socio-Scientific Welfare Organisation (NSSWO) with the promise to provide affordable housing. As president of the organisation, Gaikwad lured the professors in the name of a proposed housing project under DDA’s purported land-pooling policy for which he claimed that the NSSWO was in the process of procuring land.

The complainants became members and paid membership fees and payments for their flats. Later they realized that Gaikwad allegedly cheated them.

Since 2019, the complainants tried hard to get back their deposited amount from Gaikwad, who had collected more than Rs 11 crore from them and misappropriated the same, police said.

RERA (Delhi) has confirmed that the Gaikwad’s alleged society has neither registered itself with it nor applied for registration. The Rs 11 crore received by the account of Gaikwad’s society was either siphoned off through cash withdrawal or transferred to other accounts. He was arrested on December 14 from Delhi.
