360-Degree Surveillance Cameras to be Used to Check Forest Fires in Similipal

Baripada: Authorities of the Similipal Sanctuary have planned to install 360-degree surveillance cameras to check forest fires during the summer months.

These cameras will enable early detection of forest fires so that they can be extinguished easily. Added to it, these cameras will also enable round-the-clock watch in some remote and inaccessible places, where immediate detection of fires is a problem.

A control room will function 24X7 for these CCTV surveillance cameras. Each camera will keep watch on a 15-km radius region.

These cameras will also check the entry of poachers to the sanctuary area. The sanctuary authorities are also using thermal drone cameras to track poachers and forest fires.

The forest department is also conducting awareness drives to sensitize locals about measures to check forest fires.
