Amarnath Yatra Faces Terror Attack Threat; Security Agencies on High Alert

Anantnag: Ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, there are reports indicating that terrorists based in Pakistan are planning a potential attack on the pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir. These sources suggest that the terrorists may target both the security forces and the convoy of the Amarnath Yatra to disrupt the pilgrimage.

According to reports, Rafiq Nai and Mohammad Amin Butt, also known as Abu Khubaib, have been assigned the responsibility of carrying out an attack on the Amarnath Yatra. These individuals have also been tasked with conducting terrorist activities in the Rajouri-Poonch, Pir Panjal, and Chenab Valley regions.

Rafiq Nai hails from Mendhar in the Poonch district, while Khubaib is a resident of the Doda district. Currently, both individuals are operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The security agencies are closely monitoring Khubaib’s family and their residence, as they suspect that his family members may be in contact with him.

The Intelligence Agency of Pakistan, ISI, has reportedly instructed these two terrorists to carry out acts of terror in the Jammu region. They are using social media to lure youths from Doda and Poonch regions and recruit them as overground workers (OGWs), thus increasing their network.

Due to their local knowledge, these terrorists are familiar with infiltration routes, prompting security agencies to heighten vigilance in border areas. In preparation for the Amarnath Yatra, security forces are closely monitoring every part of the city and village. Several agencies, including squad teams, QRT, CRPF, Jammu Kashmir Police, and SSB, are responsible for ensuring the safety of the yatris.

Registration for the Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 1, 2023. The pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Amarnath temple, located in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, spans 62 days and concludes on August 31, 2023.
