Chhattisgarh Woman Throws Acid At Ex-Lover During His Wedding; Arrested

Jagdalpur: A 22-year-old lady was arrested for reportedly throwing acid on her ex-boyfriend during his wedding to another woman in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, the police said on Monday.

According to Nivedita Pal, Additional Superintendent of Police for Bastar, the accused’s involvement in the crime was discovered during the inquiry, leading to her arrest on Sunday.

The incident took place on April 19, when the groom-to-be, Damrudhar Baghel (25), was getting married to a woman, Chhote Amabal (19), in the Bhanpuri police station’s jurisdiction. The acid attack left the bride, the groom, and 10 guests with minor burns.

The investigation was started by police after they filed a case under section 326 A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc.) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to Ms. Pal, the accused claimed to have been in a relationship with Damrudhar Baghel for several years and informed the police that Damrudhar had betrayed her by getting married to another woman.

The police officer revealed that the lady orchestrated the attack by stealing acid from a chilli farm where she worked. The acid is used to clean the drip system at the field.

The investigation revealed that the accused woman disguised herself as a man to hide her own identity while committing the crime.
