N Chandrababu Naidu Appears In Court After Arrest In Corruption Case; Alleges Unlawful Detention

Vijayawada: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appeared in an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada on Sunday, September 11, 2023, after being arrested in connection with an alleged corruption case.

Naidu was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday, September 10, 2023, after a 10-hour interrogation at the SIT office in Kunchanapalli. He was taken to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for medical tests before being produced in court.

Naidu’s legal team led by Supreme Court advocate Siddarth Luthra argued that his arrest was illegal and that he should be released on bail. The court is expected to rule on the bail plea on Monday, September 12, 2023.

The case against Naidu relates to alleged irregularities in the construction of skill development centres in Andhra Pradesh. He has denied any wrongdoing.

The arrest of Naidu has sparked a political controversy in Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which Naidu leads, has accused the ruling YSR Congress Party of using the CID to target its political opponents.

The case is likely to be closely watched by the people of Andhra Pradesh, who are already facing a number of economic challenges.
