Rahu-Ketu are Mathematically Calculated Celestial Points In Vedic Astronomy

Whatever rationalists may say, Rahu and Ketu were never considered to be demons by ancient astronomers and astrologers of India. Today during the lunar eclipse, rationalists will again decry the Indian belief in Rahu and Ketu. They will term them as superstitious beliefs of Vedic Astrology and ages-old Indian astronomy. But the reality is quite different.

Scientific basis:

As per ancient Indian astronomy, Rahu and Ketu represent points of intersection of the paths of the sun and the moon. In the modern scientific language, they are the points where the orbits of the sun and the moon intersect, as they move in space.

In astrology, these intersection points of orbits are called north and south lunar nodes. Rahu is the name given to the north lunar node intersection point, while the south lunar node is termed Ketu.

Perfect calculation:

Eclipses occur when the sun or the moon is at one of these intersection points. Ancient Indian astrologers and astronomers were able to mathematically calculate the time when the sun or the moon would reach these intersection points of orbits. Through it they were able to predict the time of eclipses.

Truth must come out:

As Rahu and Ketu are also depicted as demons in our Puranas, most Indians have forgotten their real astronomical identity. It is high time for we Indians to proclaim that Rahu and Ketu depict the mathematical astronomical knowledge of our forefathers. It is also the duty of rationalists to accept that Rahu and Ketu were not considered demons by the knowledgeable astronomers of our past.
