Rats Ate up 21.9 Kg Ganja, TN Police’s Startling Claim in Court

Chennai: Two persons accused of possessing 22 Kg ganja were acquitted by a court on Tuesday as the police claimed that the seized marijuana was eaten up by rats.

The two accused, Rajagopal and Nageshwara Rao, were arrested by the Marina police in Chennai in 2020. As per police records, at that time 22 kg of cannabis was seized from their possession.

Their case was heard by a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances court in Chennai. But the police failed to produce the narcotics seized from the duo in court. Police submitted 50 grams of the marijuana that was seized from the accused and informed that another 50 gram was sent to a forensic lab for test.

Answering to a query of the court regarding the rest 21.9 kilograms of seized marijuana, the police said rats had eaten it up.

As the police failed to submit the seized amount of marijuana mentioned in charge sheet, the arrested accused persons were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence.
