Rioting Destroys Peace During Ramzan, Ram Navami in Chh. Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Violent group clash occurred on the eve of Ram Navami in the minority-dominated Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly, Aurangabad) in Maharashtra on Wednesday-Thursday night.

This group clash marred the Ramzan peace and Ram Navami festivities in this urban center. According to sources, clashes broke out around midnight on Wednesday in the Kiradpura area. Miscreants from different communities shouted slogans against each other which led to stone pelting.

The clash turned violent with time and around 20 vehicles, including some police vehicles, was torched by the rioters. Police teams were targeted by stone pelters.

Police resorted to mild lathi charge and burst teargas shells to control the rioters. The situation was brought under control early on Thursday morning.

There were no reports of any casualties in the incident.

Condemning the developments, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut asked whether “these are the riots that are being feared” and said that “there is no home department in the state”.
