Man Sentenced to 20 Years RI for 2018 Minor Girl Rape in Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: A man, identified as Dagar Chhatar, a resident of Badagaon village in Bargarh district, has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a POCSO court. This sentence comes in connection with the 2018 rape of a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh, with an additional condition that Dagar will serve an extra year in prison if the fine is not paid.

The case was registered based on an FIR filed by the survivor’s family. Dagar was charged under Sections 376(3), 4 of the IPC, and the POCSO Act. The court’s decision came after a thorough investigation.

It’s worth noting that the POCSO court has ordered the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the rape victim, offering some support to the survivor during this challenging time.
