Mystery Shrouds Odia Student’s Death at IIT Hyderabad: Family Suspects Ragging and Foul Play

Mamitha Naik, a 21-year-old student from Odisha, pursuing her studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), was found dead in her hostel room on campus. The distressing incident occurred on Monday evening when her classmates discovered her hanging from the ceiling fan. The hostel authorities were quickly notified, who then informed the Sangareddy rural police. Her body was subsequently taken for autopsy.

Despite the discovery of a suicide note in her room, in which Mamitha stated that her decision was a result of intense mental stress and that no one else was to blame, her family has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding her demise. They have alleged that she might have been a victim of ‘ragging’ or even foul play.

Mamitha’s father expressed disbelief and refuted the notion of suicide. He emphasized that his daughter was not facing academic or financial pressures, and the family remained in regular contact with her. He asserted that she had been a victim of ragging, hinting at the possibility of murder.

Hailing from Dumuri village in Subarnapur district, Mamitha had recently joined IIT-H on July 26. Her family, shattered by the tragic event, has been left grappling for answers.
