Odisha Court Hands Life Sentences to Man, 4 Sons in Decade-Old Double Murder Case

Ganjam: A court in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday sentenced a man and his four sons to life imprisonment after convicting them in a double murder case that occurred in 2013.

The Additional District Sessions Judge First Class in Ganjam found Dhanu Swain and his sons Kartik Swain, Amin Swain, Bhagwan Swain, and Saroj Swain guilty of murdering Gula Swain and his son Rajiv Swain of Jagannathpur village on December 28, 2013. The public prosecutor, Soubhagya Mishra, informed that the court’s decision came after examining at least 19 witnesses and scrutinizing other evidence presented in the case.

While pronouncing the sentence, the court also acquitted three women who were initially arrested in connection with the double homicide.

According to the case records, the motive behind the killings was past enmity between the two families. The incident transpired near a village pond located within the jurisdiction of Patapur police station in Ganjam district.

Following the murders, the police arrested at least eight individuals. After a thorough investigation, the charges were proven against Dhanu Swain and his four sons, leading to their conviction and life imprisonment sentence.
