WhatsApp Testing Auto HD Media Sharing on Android: Reports

WhatsApp for Android is reportedly testing a new feature that streamlines high-quality image and video sharing. This update, spotted by WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, introduces a setting option allowing users to choose between HD and standard quality for media uploads. Once selected, the app will automatically apply this preference to all future uploads, eliminating the need for manual selection each time.

The feature was discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.17, currently rolling out to testers through the Google Play Beta Program. Within the Storage and data menu, a new setting titled “Media upload quality” offers users the choice between Standard and HD quality. This enhancement streamlines the uploading process, particularly beneficial for users who consistently prefer one quality option.

Previously, users had to manually select the desired quality for each upload, whether HD or standard. While this granular control was appreciated by some, it proved cumbersome for others who preferred a consistent quality setting. With this upcoming update, WhatsApp aims to address this issue by allowing users to set their preferred quality option once, thereby simplifying the media-sharing experience.

Although this feature is currently reported for Android, its availability on iOS or the desktop app remains unconfirmed. Additionally, it’s important to note that while users can select between standard and HD quality, sending media in its original resolution, especially large-sized files, still requires sharing it as a document.
