20 Years in Jail for Rapist of Minor Girl in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A man was convicted and punished with 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a designated POCSO court in Keonjhar district in a 2017 minor girl rape case.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 fine on the convict Bijay Kumar Maharana.

The POCSO court directed the administration to provide Rs 7.50 lakh compensation to the rape survivor.

As per the chargesheet, two youths on a bike had abducted the victim in 2017 while she was going to a market in Barbil area. They as well as an associate had raped her the entire night. She had managed to escape from the clutches of the assailants and told about it to her parents.

Police had managed to arrest only one accused. Two other accused are still absconding.

During the hearing of the case, the POCSO court examined statements of 14 witnesses.
