Freedom Fighter Makar Charan Das Passes Away at 99

Cuttack: Noted Freedom fighter Makar Charan Das passed away at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack on Tuesday morning at an advanced age of 99 years.

He hailed from Hatabanapur in the Derabish tehsil of Kendrapada district. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he jumped into the freedom movement and was jailed by the British.

He was honoured by the President of India on ‘August Kranti Divas’ in 2020 for his contribution to the freedom struggle.

He is survived by a son.

He was cremated at Banpur under Derabis block with the guard of honour.
