Man hacked to Death by Brother-in-Law & Others in Suspected ‘Honour’ Killing in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: A 26-year-old man was hacked to death by his brother-in-law and four other accomplices in a case of suspected ‘honour’ killing in Chennai. All five accused were arrested by police on Monday.

The victim G Praveen was assaulted by his wife’s elder brother Dinesh and his friends near a bar at suburban Pallikaranai of Chennai on Saturday night. The five-member gang attacked Praveen with machetes and escaped from the spot.

Seriously injured Praveen was to the Chromepet Government Hospital by the police, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigation has revealed that the deceased Praveen was an accused in a murder case in 2022. He married a woman in November 2023 against the wishes of her family members. Praveen and his wife belong to different communities, so the girl’s family was opposed to their relationship.

A special police team arrested all five men at Mambakkam on the outskirts of Chennai on Monday morning.
