Miscreants Resort to Blank Firing, Attack Councilors’ Brother in Khallikote

Bhubaneswar: Armed miscreants resorted to blank firing in front of the house of a councilor at Khallikote in Ganjam district on Friday night. They also thrashed the brother of the councilor, Kanha Barik with hockey sticks.

At least four miscreants were reported to be involved in this attack at the house and shop of Narayan Barik, the councilor of Ward no. 11 of Khallikote Notified Area Council (NAC).

The miscreants reached the spot in a car. They also damaged a four-wheeler owned by the Barik family part from beating up Kanha, who sustained injuries to his head and other parts.

On being informed, personnel of the Khallikote police station reached the spot initiated a probe into the incident.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that an unidentified person had threatened the councilor over phone on Thursday.

Notably, Khallikote Assembly seat under Aska Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha will go for elections on May 20.
