Odia Female Researcher Found Hanging in IIT Kanpur Hostel

Kanpur: A female researcher hailing from Odisha who was a  staff member with the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur was found hanging in her hostel room.

According to police sources, the deceased was from Cuttack in Odisha.

Her body was found hanging from the ceiling hook in the hostel room on the second floor of RA Tower on the IIT Kanpur campus on Tuesday. She had checked into the hostel room three days before her death. Earlier she was living outside the campus.

The deceased was working as a project executive officer in the BSBE department of IIT Kanpur for about a year.

The post-mortem will be conducted after the family of the deceased reaches Kanpur from Odisha on Wednesday.

In a statement issued late Tuesday night, IIT Kanpur authorities said she was a promising researcher and joined IIT-K for her post-doctoral research.

“In her passing away, the institute has lost a young bright and promising researcher,” the statement added.
