Coastal Odisha on Alert for Heavy Rain; Temperature Surge Expected After 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is expected to continue at isolated places across six Odisha districts – Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Gajapati – until Thursday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in several districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, and others.

This weather activity is due to a combination of meteorological factors including a western disturbance over Jharkhand, a trough running from northeast Uttar Pradesh to east Vidarbha, and another trough extending from Jharkhand to south Assam.

The Met Office has advised residents to stay alert, take shelter during thunderstorms, and follow traffic advisories in urban areas to avoid any inconvenience.

While light rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in some districts on Thursday, the weather is expected to clear across the state thereafter.

Odisha can also expect a significant rise in temperatures. The IMD has predicted a rise of 8-10 degrees Celsius in day temperatures across most places within the next 24 hours. Night temperatures are also expected to increase by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next 4-5 days.
