Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Announces Ex-Gratia for Victims of Jajpur Train Accident

Bhubaneswar; Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his deep condolences over the tragic demise of six contractual labourers at the Jajpur-Keonjhar Road station in Odisha today.

Additionally, he announced a compassionate compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased labourers, which will be disbursed from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

An official statement revealed that the Chief Minister has instructed the relevant authorities to ensure the injured labourers receive appropriate medical treatment.

The unfortunate incident took place when a group of workers, hired by a private contractor for railway-related work, sought shelter from a Nor’wester rainstorm under a stationary goods train. Regrettably, the train started moving and ran over the labourers, claiming six lives.

Two other labourers sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving critical care. The deceased individuals have been identified as Manas Samal, Goutam Samal, Susanta Jena, Dolagobinda Pradhan, Vimsen Jena, and Prashant Jena, according to reports.
