PM Modi to Inaugurate India’s 1st Underwater Metro Tunnel in Kolkata Tomorrow

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India’s first under-river metro tunnel in Kolkata tomorrow, marking a significant milestone in urban transportation development.

Alongside this landmark project, PM Modi will unveil several other crucial metro and rapid transit initiatives across the country, aimed at enhancing connectivity and mobility.

The Kolkata Metro extension, featuring the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section, includes the pioneering under-river tunnel, symbolizing India’s technological advancement in infrastructure. This development strategically links two bustling areas of Kolkata, enhancing public transportation efficiency and accessibility.

In addition to the underwater metro, PM Modi will inaugurate the Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala – Majerhat Metro sections, part of the Joka-Esplanade line. The Majerhat Metro Station, an architectural marvel, demonstrates innovative approaches to urban mobility improvement.

The inauguration event extends beyond Kolkata, encompassing key projects like the Pune Metro’s Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch, the Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension, the Agra Metro’s Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar stretch, and the Duhai-Modinagar section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor. These projects aim to alleviate traffic congestion and provide seamless connectivity, boosting economic growth and accessibility to historical sites.

Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Pune Metro Rail project phase 1 extension, furthering the government’s commitment to sustainable and efficient transportation networks nationwide.
