5 Injured in Group Clash Between Goldsmith Families in Nuapada

Khariar: Five persons were injured in an acid attack during a group clash between two goldsmith families in Duajhar village under Khariar police station limits in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Thursday.

Three injured included Manijar Saraf and his two sons Vijay and Dhananjay from one group, while the other two injured were Ghanashyam Saraf and his wife Santoshi Saraf.

According to police sources, these two goldsmith families were having a long-standing tussle over gold ornament-making at a nearby village. On Thursday, members of these two families entered into a verbal spat on the banks of the Duajhar river, while they were they were on their way to the nearby village for jewellery making.

Their altercation turned violent when both families threw acid at each other in anger.

Locals rescued the injured persons and rushed them to the government hospital in Khariar. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Nuapada.
