Rishi Sunak, Akshata Murty’s Spiritual Interlude: Akshardham Temple Visit Amid G20 Summit

New Delhi: Rishi Sunak, the UK Prime Minister, embarked on his first official visit to India since assuming office. He and his wife, Akshata Murty, paid a visit to the Akshardham Temple in Delhi during his stay, amid tightened security measures in the vicinity.

Their visit coincided with the two-day G20 Summit, where global leaders convened to address pressing global issues.

Expressing pride in his Hindu heritage, Sunak had expressed a desire to visit an Indian temple, which he fulfilled at the Akshardham Temple.

Following their temple visit, the British Prime Minister and his wife proceeded to Rajghat to join fellow delegates in paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Sunak had earlier shared his admiration for Prime Minister Modi and expressed his commitment to supporting the success of the G20 Summit.

During the summit, Prime Minister Modi and Rishi Sunak engaged in discussions to strengthen trade ties and bolster investments. This dialogue built upon their previous meeting at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima earlier in the year, where they explored topics like the India-UK free trade agreement, innovation, science, and the enhancement of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between their two nations.

In addition to official engagements, the couple also planned to revisit some of their favourite restaurants in Delhi during their stay.
