Rats Ate up 581 Kg Ganja, Mathura Police’s startling Claim

Lucknow: It may sound unbelievable, but as the report of Mathura police to a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (1985) court, rats “ate” 581 kg of marijuana. This seized weed was stored in the warehouses of Shergarh and Highway police stations.
The marijuana alleged to be eaten up by mice was worth Rs 60 lakh. The court had ordered Mathura police to produce the marijuana recovered in a case registered under the NDPS Act.

The officers told the judge that mice and rates were small in size and had no fear of the police!

The additional district judge has ordered SSP Mathura to stop the ‘mice menace’ and provide proof that rats actually consumed 581 kg of marijuana worth Rs 60 lakh.
Notably, in May 2020, three men smuggling ganja weed in a truck were intercepted near Jatwari village in the Shergarh area. The three accused were arrested. The court had ordered the police to produce the seized weed.

In 2021 cops at Etah district’s Kotwali Dehat police station claimed that mice had consumed over 1,400 cartons of seized liquor worth over Rs 35 lakh. An investigation revealed that some policemen had sold the seized liquor to a gangster.
