One Quintal Ganja Seized from Car With Doctors’ Sign, 3 Arrested in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Excise officials seized around one quintal of ganja from a car from Uttar Pradesh bearing sticker that stated that it was owned by a doctor, in Sambalpur district on Thursday. Three persons involved in this contraband smuggling were arrested.

This car with Uttar Pradesh registration number was intercepted at Gunderpur on Sambalpur-Sonepur National Highway-15. The smugglers had pasted stickers used by doctors to avoid detention en route.

Excise officials unearthed around one quintal of marijuana stashed in 50 packets from the car. To avoid detection, the packets resembled saree packets.

Initial investigation revealed that the arrested persons had procured the ganja from Similiguda area in Koraput district. It was being transported to Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The seized contraband was worth around Rs 17 lakh.
