5 Critical After Gas Cylinder Leak Fire in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: A cooking gas cylinder leak led to a fire that caused burn injuries to five individuals, including two women, in the village of Badabiruhan, located in Odisha’s Jajpur district. The incident occurred on Monday and occurred within the jurisdiction of the Panikoili police station.

The two women, Sarita Swain and her daughter-in-law Madhusmita Swain, sustained critical burns and received initial medical treatment at a local hospital in Jajpur Road. They were later transferred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further care.

The mishap originated when the house owner, Kamalakanta Swain, was fitting a gas regulator, which started leaking. The leaked gas subsequently ignited due to a nearby lamp lit for a religious puja. Kamalakanta and two of their neighbors also suffered burn injuries in the incident.

Following the accident, all injured parties were rushed to the Government Hospital in Jajpur Road. As the condition of the two women worsened, they were transferred to Cuttack’s SCB Medical, according to sources.
